Frequently Asked Questions

Are children allowed on the park?

We are an adult only park and children are not allowed to stay overnight on the touring park. Children may visit the Abbey grounds during the day and children are also welcome to stay in the self catering apartment.

 

What age do we class as children?

Adults over 18 are permitted to stay on the park if staying as part of a family group 16/17 year olds will be permitted. Strictly  no under 16 year olds allowed on the park.

Is there a charge to visit the Abbey?

The Abbey is owned and run by English Heritage and is free to visit, the entry gate is adjacent to the farm house and park shop.

 

How close is the park to Durham City?

We are approximately four miles from the city centre.

​

Can you walk into Durham City?

Yes there is a lovely walk into the city.

  • Walk from the site up the hill through the car barrier, follow the road until you meet the main road.

  • Turn right then left between the prison and the prison buildings.

  • ​The path leads down to Frankland Farm, then by road to the treatment centre and the riverside, with a view of the cathedral.

  • After passing under Framwellgate Bridge, take the stairs up by the Coach and Eight pub.

How close is the park to Durham City park and ride?

Durham Park and Ride operates all year round, Monday to Sunday, from Sniperley (DH1 5RA, 4.5 miles from the park) and Belmont (DH1 1SR, 7.5 Miles from the park)

​Parking is free,  Adult Day Ticket £2.20. All English concessionary pass holders can travel for free after 9.30am Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.​

​Are you on a bus route?

We are approximately 3/4 of a mile walk to the closest bus stop which is at Brasside. Please see the link below for bus times to Durham.

Fishing

Fishing is available on the park see full fishing rules for information and dates, tickets are £12 a day (including parking) and available to purchase from the park shop. Season tickets are available for £95 a year (no parking included.) If staying on the park for two or more nights in the pod or touring park one free day of fishing is available.

What time can I arrive on the touring park?

Arrival anytime from 1pm, arrivals after 9pm may be asked to park in the late stay area. Pods from 2pm.

​

What time is departure?

Plots must be vacated before 11am, Pods by 10am

​

Do you accept tents?

No we don't accept tents on the park. 

​

Do you accept trailer tents.

Yes we accept trailer tents and roof top tents.

​

Can we have a barbeque?

Yes you are welcome to use a barbeque on the park as long as the grass is not damaged and other visitors are not disturbed. 

​

Are you close to Beamish?

Yes we are just over 11 miles from the museum. If you stay with us for two or more nights we can give you a 15% discount code.

​

Do you accept dogs?

Yes well behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on leads around their park and owners clean up after them.

​

Can you recommend a local restaurant?

Can we get a takeaway delivered to the park?

Yes please see a few numbers below you can also order through Just Eat 

Please arrange to meet the delivery driver at the car barrier to collect your takeaway as they won't be able to access the park after 4.30pm
